Tips for Writing an Accountant CV in Kenya

Your CPA-K registration status is one of the first things a Kenyan finance employer checks. State it clearly in your header, and if you are still progressing through the KASNEB exams, state your current level (e.g. "CPA Part II") rather than leaving it out entirely — partial progress is still relevant information.

💡 Systems experience

Name the specific accounting systems you have used — QuickBooks, Sage, SAP, Pastel, Oracle. Kenyan finance employers often standardize on one system, and matching that keyword can be the difference between shortlisting and rejection, especially for ATS-screened applications.

What Kenyan Finance Employers Look For

  • Clear CPA-K status or current KASNEB level
  • Specific accounting software and ERP systems used
  • Evidence of statutory compliance experience (PAYE, NHIF, NSSF, iTax)
  • Quantified process improvements — time saved, error rates reduced, accuracy improved
  • Audit exposure, particularly for roles that will interact with external auditors
