RE: APPLICATION FOR THE POSITION OF SECONDARY SCHOOL TEACHER – MATHEMATICS & PHYSICS
Dear Sir/Madam,
I write to express my strong interest in the position of Mathematics and Physics Teacher at [School Name], as advertised on [Source – e.g., your school notice board / Daily Nation / BrighterMonday].
I am a registered teacher with the Teachers Service Commission (TSC No. 0345678) holding a Bachelor of Education (Science) from Maseno University, specializing in Mathematics and Physics. I graduated with Second Class Honours (Upper Division) in 2018 and have since accumulated 6 years of teaching experience at secondary school level.
Currently serving as a Mathematics and Physics teacher at [Current School], I have demonstrated consistent student improvement, raising the school's average score in Mathematics from 52% to 74% over three academic years. I am experienced in CBC and KCSE curriculum delivery, lesson planning, and student mentorship. I have also served as the school's Science Club patron and contributed to winning the sub-county science fair in 2023.
I am confident that my academic qualifications, classroom experience and commitment to student excellence align well with [School Name]'s vision. I am eager to contribute to your school's academic growth and create a positive learning environment for your students.
Kindly find attached my detailed CV and certified copies of relevant certificates for your consideration. I am available for an interview at your earliest convenience and can provide additional documents upon request.
Yours faithfully,
DAVID OTIENO ODHIAMBO

Tips for Writing a Teaching Application Letter in Kenya
- Always include your TSC number prominently — it's the first thing a school principal looks for
- Mention the specific subjects you are qualified to teach and the class levels
- Include one or two student achievement results (exam improvements, competition wins)
- Reference any CBC training or experience — schools are actively looking for CBC-competent teachers
- For private schools, you can mention extra-curricular activities (sports, clubs, performing arts)
- For international schools, highlight any IGCSE, IB or Cambridge curriculum experience
When applying for a TSC-posted position, address the letter to the TSC County Director, not the school. For direct school applications, address the Headteacher. A wrong salutation is an immediate red flag for school administrators.
